Victims Identified in Bakersfield Semi Crash
BAKERSFIELD, CA (September 16, 2022) – Martha Alicia Flores, Carlos Cruz Serna, and Monte Harold Johnson were identified by the Kern County coroner’s office as the victims killed in a crash in Bakersfield involving a big rig. The September 9 crash occurred on Malaga Road and Sunset Boulevard.
The time was roughly before 10:00 p.m., according to authorities.
Reports say Flores had been driving a Honda.
Authorities allege the big rig–described as a Volvo tractor trailer–which had been traveling on Malaga Road and going northbound, did not stop at a stop sign where Sunset Boulevard intersects.
The big rig collided with the Honda.
Three people–all residents of Arvin–were killed in the crash.
Flores was 48 years old.
Serna was 51 years old.
Johnson was 65 years old.
While they continue to collect details and information about the crash, investigators are working to understand why it happened.
