Crash on I-5 Kills a Worker for Caltrans Subcontractor, Injures Another in Sacramento, CA
SACRAMNENTO, CA (September 12, 2022) – Early in the evening on Wednesday last week, a worker for a Caltrans subcontractor was struck and killed on I-5, and another was critically injured. The September 7 crash occurred while the victim, and another worker, were on site to close a part of the roadway.
The time was roughly 6:30 p.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
Authorities said that two people were working to close a part of the roadway of I-5.
They were outside of their vehicle–described as a cone truck that was subcontracted for Caltrans–when a minivan hit them.
Responders found one of the victims was killed in the crash. The victim’s identity–including name, age, gender, and city of residence–has not been reported.
Responders transported the other victim to a hospital in the area. The patient’s condition was described as critical.
The patient’s identity is not known from reports.
The person who was driving the vehicle has also not been identified.
Investigators are working to understand why the crash happened.
