Two Injured When Car Erupts in Flames from Crash near Main Street and East Village in Vista, CA
VISTA, CA (September 1, 2022) – On Sunday night in Vista, a two-vehicle fiery crash injured two people. The August 29 crash occurred where Vista Village and Main Street intersect.
The time was roughly 8:30 p.m., according to Eric Cottrell. Cottrell is a sergeant with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
A vehicle–described as a Scion–had been traveling on Vista Village and heading east.
Authorities allege the Scion struck a vehicle–described as a Ford Mustang–and the force of the crash sent the Scion to veer off the roadway.
The Scion struck a concrete wall and a tree, and erupted in flames.
No details have been reported on the line of travel of the Mustang.
Reports say two Good Samaritans–including a U.S. Navy engineer and an active duty U.S. Marine–saw the vehicle burning, and rushed to businesses nearby to obtain fire extinguishers.
The Good Samaritans put out the car fire.
Responders worked to free the two occupants of the Scion. Responders transported the driver by airlift to a hospital.
He suffered injuries that were described as major.
He was identified only as 23 years old. His name and city of residence have not been reported.
Responders took the passenger by ground transport to a hospital for treatment.
She was identified only as 20 years old. Her name and city of residence are not known from reports.
Reports do not say if anyone in the Mustang was injured in the crash. The Mustang’s driver has also not been identified.
Investigators are continuing their work on the crash.
