Downey High Student Killed in I-5 Crash; 2 Others Injured
DOWNEY, CA (March 8, 2022) – Late on night on Saturday in Downey, Jaylon Connish–a student at Downey High School–was killed in a crash on I-5. The March 5 crash injured two other people.
Connish had been traveling with two other people in a vehicle that was heading south on I-5. In an area close to the 605 Freeway, the vehicle–described as a Nissan Altima–went off the right-hand side of the roadway.
The Nissan plunged down an embankment, hit a pole, and overturned, rolling multiple times, according to Kevin Tao. Tao is an officer with the California Highway Patrol.
Responders transported the three occupants of the wrecked vehicle to the hospital. Reports say one of the patients died before he reached the hospital.
He was identified by officials of Warren High School as Connish.
The other passenger was identified only as a minor. The person’s name has not been reported.
The driver was identified only as 18 years old. The person’s name has also not been stated in reports.
Both patients suffered injuries that were described as major.
Investigators are working to understand why the crash happened. They are continuing their efforts to collect details and information.
