Two Crashes Near Goleta, Minutes Apart, on the 101 Freeway Kill 4 People
GOLETA, CA (August 26, 2021) – Early in the morning on Wednesday, two crashes that occurred within minutes of each other near Goleta killed four people. The August 25 crashes occurred on the 101 Freeway.
The time was roughly 2:10 a.m. when the first crash occurred, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A vehicle–described as a Hyundai Sonata–had been traveling in the right lane. The Hyundai collided with another vehicle, which has not been described. Reports do not say how the collision occurred.
The Hyundai went onto the roadway’s shoulder, and came to a stop in the traffic lanes. The other vehicle involved in the crash left the crash site; the driver did not remain at the scene.
The person who had been driving the Hyundai died at the crash site. He was identified only as a resident of Solvang, 31 years old. His name has not been reported.
Minutes later, the subsequent crash occurred on the 101 Freeway, near Dos Pueblos Canyon Road and to the north of it. A vehicle–described as a Volkswagen–entered the center divider and crossed over to the roadway’s southbound side.
The Volkswagen collided with a vehicle–described as a Ford Expedition–that had been traveling in the left lane. Both vehicles caught fire, reports say.
The person who had been driving the Ford Expedition, and a passenger traveling in that vehicle, were killed in the crash. Their identities have not been reported.
The person who had been driving the Volkswagen also died at the crash. The person has not been identified in reports.
Investigators are working to collect information on both collisions.
