SDSU Architect, Struck and Killed on Bicycle in Balboa Park
SAN DIEGO, CA (July 23, 2021) – Early in the morning on Tuesday in San Diego, a bicyclist was struck and killed in Balboa Park. The victim in the July 20 crash was identified as Laura Shinn, an architect who designed a number of places at San Diego State University.
The time of the crash was 7:30 a.m., according to Scott Lockwood, who is an officer with San Diego Police. The crash occurred on Pershing Drive, close to where Florida Drive is located.
Reports say Shinn was riding a bicycle in Balboa Park, and a vehicle–described as a Toyota Prius–hit her from behind. Responders arrived and transported her to Scripps Mercy Hospital located in Hillcrest.
The Medical Examiner’s Office said Shinn was pronounced deceased in the hospital. She was 57 years old.
The person who was driving the vehicle stayed at the crash site and cooperated with the investigation. He was identified as Adam David Milavetz, 38 years old.
He was charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence of drugs causing injury.
