San Diego Wrong-way Crash on I-5 Kills One and Injures 4 in Carmel Valley Area
SAN DIEGO, CA (June 3, 2021) – Early in the morning on Tuesday in San Diego, a wrong-way crash killed one person and seriously injured four people. The June 1 incident occurred on I-5 on the southbound side of the freeway, not far from I-805 in the Carmel Valley area.
The time was roughly 12:50 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
A vehicle–described as a Dodge Magnum–had been traveling the wrong way on the freeway, going north in the lanes that head south, according to the California Highway Patrol. The Dodge collided with a vehicle–described as a Honda Civic, white in color.
Another vehicle–described as a Ford pickup truck–struck the Dodge, reports say.
A woman who had been traveling in the Honda as a passenger was killed in the collision. She was identified only as 52 years old. Her name and city of residence have not been reported.
The person who had been driving the Honda, and another passenger in the Honda suffered serious injuries. Their current condition is not known. They have not been identified in reports.
The person who had been driving the Ford pickup also suffered serious injuries. The person was identified only as 32 years old. His name and city of residence have not been reported.
The driver of the Dodge suffered serious injuries. He was identified as 42 years old. His name and city of residence have not been reported.
Investigators are continuing their work on the crash. They are collecting information and details.
