Hit-and-run Driver Strikes Juvenile Bicyclists in Port Hueneme, Killing One

PORT HUENEME, CA (April 21, 2021) – On Monday night, a hit-and-run crash in Port Hueneme killed a bicyclist. The suspect driver was later arrested in the April 19 incident, which occurred on Ventura Road.

The time was roughly a little before 9:30 p.m., according to authorities.

According to authorities, a group of bicyclists–described as juvenile males–had been traveling on Ventura Road and heading north. In an area close to Pleasant Valley Road, the seven bicyclists were struck by a hit-and-run driver, reports say.

Responders arrived and transported three of the bicyclists to hospitals in the area, where one of the victims died.

Another victim suffered injuries that were described as major. His condition is critical, police said.

A third patient suffered injuries in the lower part of his body, which were described as significant, according to police.

The suspect driver was reported to have abandoned the vehicle he was driving after he left the crash site. Police said he later turned himself in to authorities.

Authorities arrested the suspect hit-and-run driver on suspicion of murder and attempted murder, reports say. He was identified as  Samuel Rocha, a resident of Port Hueneme, 28 years old.

The families of the victims have not been identified in reports.

Investigators are continuing their work on the incident.
