Three Injured in Rancho San Diego Crash as Driver Flees Pursuit by Deputies
RANCHO SAN DIEGO, CA (March 1, 2021) – Late in the morning on Sunday in Rancho San Diego, three people were injured in a crash involving a driver who was fleeing from authorities. The February 28 crash occurred where Brabham Street and Jamacha Road intersect.
The time was roughly a little after 10:52 a.m.
According to reports, deputies with the San Diego Sheriff’s Department attempted to make a traffic stop for a car–described as a Geo Metro–on State Route 94 in the 1400 block.
The person driving the Geo did not stop, and drove away at a fast speed, according to authorities.
According to Brian Jenkins, who is a sergeant with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, the Geo crossed into the lanes of opposing traffic and passed other vehicles. Deputies pursued the vehicle into the area of Rancho San Diego.
In the area where Brabham Street and Jamacha Road intersect, the Geo went through a light that was red, according to Jenkins. The Geo collided with another vehicle, described as a minivan.
Two people who had been traveling in the Geo Metro, and one person who had been traveling in the minivan were injured. Responders transported them to a local hospital.
The types of injuries the people suffered have not been described.
The person who had been driving the minivan has not been identified, including name, age, gender, and city of residence.
The driver who fled from authorities was identified as Joshua Furister, 34 years old, according to Jenkins. Furister faces charges that include reckless driving and felony reckless evading arrest, reports say.
The passenger in the Geo has not been identified. Investigators are working on the incident.
