Two Young Children Injured When Car Crashes into House in San Diego’s Mount Hope Area
SAN DIEGO, CA (February 25, 2021) – Two young children were injured on Wednesday night in San Diego when a car crashed into their house. The February 24 incident occurred in the area of Mount Hope.
The time was roughly a little before 9:50 p.m., Tony Martinez said. Martinez is an officer with San Diego Police.
A vehicle–described as a Ford Mustang–traveled off the road where the intersection of the off-ramp for State Route 94, Home Avenue, and Federal Boulevard is located. The Mustang traveled down the embankment, crashed through a fence, smashed into the back of the house and into a bedroom.
Two residents who were in the bedroom–identified as a 3 year old and a 6 year old–suffered injuries that were described as minor. Responders transported them to a hospital.
Responders also transported the driver to the hospital. He suffered injuries that were described as minor.
Officers arrested the driver on suspicion of DUI. He was identified as 22 years old. His name and city of residence have not been reported.
The house was damaged, and due to be inspected by a building engineer. The residents of the house–the children, and two adults–were displaced by the incident.
The identities of the homeowners have not been reported.
Investigators are continuing their work on the incident.
