Car Collides with Ice Cream Truck in South Los Angeles; Four Injured
LOS ANGELES, CA (February 19, 2021) – Early in the evening on Thursday, a car and and ice cream truck collided in South Los Angeles, injuring four people. The February 18 incident occurred in the area of Vermont-Slauson, where Normandie Avenue and 65th Street intersect.
The time was roughly a little after 6:00 p.m., William Cooper said. Cooper is a Los Angeles Police Department media relations officer.
According to Guy Juneau, who is a sergeant with the Los Angeles Police Department, the ice cream struck was traveling in the intersection when the crash happened. A vehicle–which has not been described–that was traveling on Normandie, collided with the ice cream truck.
The impact of the crash sent the ice cream truck to fall down. A fire erupted at the scene.
When responders arrived from the fire department, reports say, the car was actively burning. The people who had been traveling in the car were able to exit it.
According to Juneau, two people were traveling in the car, and two people were traveling in the ice cream truck. Three people suffered broken legs in the crash.
The two people in the car both had broken legs, and one person–who had been a passenger in the ice cream truck–also had broken legs. The person who had been driving the ice cream was also hurt, but the injuries have not been described.
None of the people involved in the crash have been identified. Investigators are working on understanding the incident, and for that effort, they are gathering information and details.
