Truck Hits Woman in Highway 101 Roadway Near Gaviota
GAVIOTA, CA (January 28, 2021) – On Wednesday afternoon, a woman was seriously injured when she was hit by a truck near Gaviota. The January 27 incident occurred in the area of Tajiguas, on Highway 101 southbound close to Arroyo Quemada Lane.
The time was roughly 2:30 p.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
Reports say the woman had pulled her vehicle to the side of the roadway, and exited her vehicle, according to Santa Barbara County Fire.
The woman stepped into the highway’s slow lane, officers are reported to have said, and into the path of an oncoming semi truck.
The woman was hit by the truck. According to the California Highway Patrol, the drivers of other vehicles that were passing by had to avoid hitting her before the truck clipped her.
Responders arrived and transported the woman to a hospital in the area. She suffered injuries that were described as major. Her current condition is not known.
She was identified as a resident of Woodland Hills, 36 years old. Her name has not been reported.
