Big Rigs Topple in High Winds on I-8 Near Descanso, Causing Injuries
DESCANSO, CA (December 4, 2020) – Early in the morning on Thursday in east San Diego County, high winds toppled two big rigs, causing injuries. The December 3 incidents occurred on I-8.
The time was roughly 4:00 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
The first incident occurred on the eastbound side of the freeway close to Japatul Valley Road. A big rig was knocked over and on its side when responders arrived.
Responders worked to free two people from the overturned big rig. They transported the patients to a hospital.
The types of injuries the people suffered, and their current condition, are not known. The identities of the two people have not been reported. It is not known who the driver was.
The second incident occurred just minutes after the first and within a few hundred feet. The second big rig was also toppled by high winds, and landed on its side.
Responders had to break the windshield to free a woman, a man, and a dog from the truck’s cab. Reports do not say if the people and dog were hurt.
The identities of those involved in the second incident have not been reported. The driver has not been identified.
Investigators are working on the incident details.
