Hit-and-run Driver Kills Skateboarder in National City
NATIONAL CITY, CA (July 13, 2020) – Early in the morning on Friday, a hit-and-run driver struck and fatally injured a skateboarder in National City. The July 10 incident occurred close to where Palm Avenue and East Fifth Street intersect.
The time was roughly 12:30 a.m., National City Police said.
Reports say the skateboarder had been out with friends, and a vehicle–which has not been described–struck him. The driver did not remain at the incident site and provide help to the victim.
Responders arrived and transported the injured rider to UC San Diego Medical Center. He died in the hospital.
His identity, including name, age, and city of residence, has not been reported.
The identities of the people who were with the victim at the time of the crash have not been reported.
Investigators are searching for the suspect driver and the vehicle involved. They are examining video from surveillance cameras in the vicinity that may have recorded the suspect vehicle.
