Man Identified as Person Killed in 5 Freeway Chain-reaction Crash Near Lake Forest
LAKE FOREST, CA (June 24, 2020) – Randall King was identified by authorities as the person who was killed in a chain-reaction collision on Saturday afternoon near Lake Forest. The June 20 incident occurred on the 5 Freeway.
The time was roughly 12:40 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
Reports say a vehicle–described as a BMW–had been going southbound on the freeway when it stopped all of a sudden close to where El Toro Road is located. A Honda had been traveling behind the BMW, and a Subaru had been traveling behind the Honda.
The Subaru slowed and was able to avoid striking the Honda. A vehicle traveling behind the Subaru–described as a Ford–smashed into the Subaru.
Responders transported the person who had been driving the Subaru to Mission Hospital. He died in the hospital. Authorities identified the victim as Randall King, a resident of Ojai, 71 years old.
None of the other people involved in the incident have been identified in reports. Investigators are working to collect details and information to understand why the BMW came to a stop on the freeway.
