Man Drives Through Security Gates at San Diego’s Broadway Pier; Hits Vehicle and Building

SAN DIEGO, CA (May 5, 2020) – Early in the morning on Sunday, a man driving a truck hit a vehicle that was parked and a building in San Diego after going through security gates on the Broadway Pier. The May 3 incident ended with the driver’s arrest.

Reports say the incident began at roughly 2:40 a.m., when the man drove his truck through the gates on the pier. After leaving the pier, the man drove on Island Avenue where he is reported to have struck a vehicle–described as a Jeep Cherokee–that was parked in the 400 block.

On Fifth Avenue, the man crashed into a building in the 3500 block, according to reports. Reports say a witness heard screeching tires and then a thump when his home was struck.

The driver exited the vehicle and attempted to flee, but fell down, reports say. The suspect tried to run, but officers apprehended him.

The suspect was arrested on charges that include DUI and three hit-and-run crashes, according to San Diego Police. The identity of the suspect has not been reported.

The identity of the owner of the parked vehicle that was struck has also not been reported.

Investigators are working to collect information and details regarding the incident.
