Suspect Fleeing Pursuit Hits Deputy’s Vehicle in Bakersfield
BAKERSFIELD, CA (April 7, 2020) – A suspect who was fleeing pursuit by authorities on Monday hit a deputy’s vehicle in Bakersfield. The suspect was later arrested in the April 6 incident when the suspect crashed on Mcnutt Street in the 2600 block.
Reports say the incident began at roughly 2:40 p.m. when the Kern County Sheriff’s Office received a call from an owner who was in the process of tracking his vehicle that had been stolen. Deputies responded, and found the vehicle. A woman and two men were inside it.
One of the men ran from the vehicle, and authorities apprehended him. His identity, including name, age, and city of residence, has not been reported.
It is not known where the woman went, reports say, and she has not been identified in reports.
The person who was driving the suspected stolen vehicle tried to hit two patrol vehicles as he fled, according to reports. The suspect hit a third patrol vehicle in the area.
Deputies pursued the suspect. The suspect driver smashed into a vehicle that had been parked on Mcnutt Street. The suspect driver fled on foot and entered a house and ran through yards and jumped fences in the area.
Authorities found the suspect and arrested him on suspicion of vehicle theft, evading and resisting arrest, and assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer. The suspect was identified as Jose Ruiz, 28 years old.
Investigators are collecting details and information regarding the incident. The owner of the suspected stolen vehicle has not been identified.
The owner of the parked vehicle that was struck has also not been identified.
