Driver Stopped by Officer for Speeding in Nipomo Flees on Foot
NIPOMO, CA (March 31, 2020) – On Saturday afternoon, a driver who was stopped by an officer for speeding in Nipomo fled the scene on foot. The March 28 incident occurred on Highway 101 northbound, close to where Tefft Street is located.
The time was roughly 3:00 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
Reports say a CHP officer stopped a driver who had been traveling at 95 miles per hour. The driver gave the patrol officer his identification, and while the officer was walking to his patrol vehicle, the driver ran from the scene.
According to reports, the fleeing man jumped over fences and ran into backyards of houses beside the freeway. He ran into an area near a Christmas tree farm in the vicinity of Bermuda Place and South Oakglen Avenue, reports say.
Authorities called in assistance and responders came from the San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s Department, officers from the California Highway Patrol’s Santa Maria area, and a K9 officer from California State Parks.
At roughly 4:00 p.m., authorities suspended their search for the driver. The driver’s vehicle was impounded.
Investigators are continuing their work to locate the driver.
