Shoplifting Suspect Runs from Store and is Struck by Car on Balboa Avenue in San Diego
SAN DIEGO, CA (March 9, 2020) – On Saturday night in San Diego, a person who is suspected of shoplifting was struck and injured by a car after running out of a store and into the street. The March 7 incident occurred on Balboa Avenue in an area between Mount Abernathy Avenue and Genesee Avenue.
The time was roughly 6:23 p.m., San Diego Police said.
Reports say the suspect had been running after shoplifting from a Koh’s department store. The suspect, who was pursued by the loss prevention team of the store, ran into the street. A vehicle—described as a Kia Soul—struck her.
The suspect was identified as a woman 39 years old, Robert Heims said. Heims is an officer with San Diego Police. The name and city of residence of the suspect have not been reported.
Responders transported the injured woman to the hospital. The injuries she suffered were described as serious. Her current condition is not known.
The person who had been driving the Kia remained at the incident site. She was identified only as 28 years old. Her name and city of residence have not been reported.
