Driver Suspected of DUI Hits Patrol Vehicle and Other Vehicle in Chula Vista, Causing Injuries
CHULA VISTA, CA (January 28, 2020) – A driver suspected of driving under the influence rear-ended a patrol vehicle in Chula Vista, injuring a police officer on Sunday. A second vehicle was also struck in the January 26 incident, which occurred on Telegraph Canyon Road, injuring two others.
The time was roughly 12:40 a.m., Officer V. Del Rio, who is with Chula Vista Police, said.
Reports say the patrol vehicle had been westbound on Telegraphy Canyon Road when a vehicle—described as a Scion—which also had been westbound rear-ended it.
The Scion continued moving after the collision, and next hit a vehicle described as a Honda CR-V, which had been stopped in the lane for left-turns. Responders arrived and transported the police officer, the driver of the Honda and a passenger in the Honda, and the driver of the Scion to the hospital.
Reports say all persons suffered injuries that were not life threatening. The types of injuries the people suffered, and their current condition is not known. None of the people involved in the incident have been identified, including name, age, gender, and city of residence.
Authorities arrested the Scion’s driver on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Investigators are continuing their collection and examination of details and information regarding the incident.
