Vehicle Crashes into Tree in Chula Vista at East Palomar Street, Injuring Two People
CHULA VISTA, CA (December 26, 2019) – Late at night on Tuesday, a vehicle crashed into a tree in Chula Vista, trapping two people inside. The December 24 incident occurred where Santa Alicia Avenue and East Palomar Street intersect.
The time was roughly 11:21 p.m., according to Gino Grippo. Grippo is a lieutenant with Chula Vista Police.
Reports say a person who witnessed the incident said the vehicle struck and broke off a light post, and smashed into a tree. According to David Albright, who is a battalion chief with the Chula Vista Fire Department, responders worked to free the two occupants of the vehicle.
The two victims suffered injuries that were described as minor. The person who had been driving the vehicle was identified as a man 25 years old. His name has not been reported. He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
The person who had been traveling as a passenger was not identified, including name, age, gender, and city of residence.
According to Grippo, a second vehicle, which has not been described, may have been involved in the crash, and then left the incident site.
Investigators are continuing their work to understand the circumstances of the crash.
