Woman Injured by Suspected DUI Driver While Walking in San Diego’s Mt. Hope Area
SAN DIEGO, CA (November 19, 2019) – Ruth James suffered serious injuries Friday night as she was walking in San Diego, when she was struck by a driver who is suspected of DUI—driving under the influence. The November 15 incident occurred in the Mt. Hope area, where Denby Street and Market Street intersect.
The time was roughly 10:35 p.m., according to Michael Tansey. Tansey is a sergeant with the San Diego Police.
Reports say James had been walking across Market Street, not within a crosswalk that is marked, but still crossing legally, according to Tansey. A vehicle—described as a Honda Accord—struck her.
Responders arrived and transported James to the hospital. She suffered injuries that were described as serious, but not life threatening, including internal injuries and a broken pelvis.
The person who had been driving the vehicle that struck James was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI. She was identified as a 40 years old. Her name and city of residence have not been reported.
