Road Rage or Street Racing May Be Cause of Crash that Killed Driver on Pico Boulevard in Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES, CA (August 30, 2019) – Road rage or street racing may have been the cause of a crash that killed a driver on Pico Boulevard in Los Angeles in the morning on Thursday. The August 29 incident occurred close to South Crest Drive, in the neighborhood of Pico-Robertson.
The time was roughly a little before 6:00 a.m., according to police.
Reports say a vehicle—described as an Infiniti Q70L—had been heading west on Pico Boulevard. For reasons that are not known, the vehicle went out of the driver’s control, and smashed into a building located at the street corner.
According to Lonnie Tiano, who is a lieutenant with the West Traffic Division of the Los Angeles Police Department, the building looked vacant and no one was inside when the collision occurred.
Firefighter responders arrived on scene to help. The victim was pronounced deceased at the accident site. The identity of the victim, including name, age, gender, and city of residence, has not been reported.
According to police, prior to the crash, the Infiniti had been traveling at a fast speed, and another vehicle—described as an SUV, gray in color—had also been traveling at a fast speed. The person who had been driving the SUV did not stop, but drove away.
Officials with the Los Angeles Police Department said investigators are looking into whether street racing or road rage was a factor in the crash. They are continuing to gather evidence and information regarding the incident.
