Three People Killed in Camarillo Crashes

CARLSBAD, CA (July 12, 2019) – Teruyo Washington, Lawrence Washington, and Romeo Marquez were identified as the three victims who died in two crashes that occurred within minutes of each other in Camarillo. The July 11 incidents took place at little after 7:50 p.m.

Reports say the first incident occurred when a vehicle—described as a 2018 Dodge Challenger—which had been heading east on Laguna Road did not stop at a stop sign at Las Posas Road. The Dodge struck a vehicle—described as a Honda—which had been traveling north on Las Posas, the California Highway Patrol said.

Two people who had been traveling in the Honda were killed in the collision. They were identified as Teruyo Washington, 71 years old. She had been the person driving the Honda. A passenger in the Honda was identified as Lawrence Washington, 76 years old. The two victims were Camarillo residents.

Two people who had been traveling in the Dodge suffered injuries that were described as minor. Responders transported them to Los Robles Hospital. They were identified as Juan Llamos, 23 years old. Llamos was the driver. A passenger was identified as Anthony Zaragoza, 21 years of age.

In the second incident, which took place minutes after the first crash, a single vehicle—described as a semi-truck—was involved. Reports say the driver—identified as Romeo Marquez, 31 years old and a resident of Panorama City, had been traveling in a Peterbilt truck.

The truck he was driving was towing another vehicle, also a semi-truck, and traveling north on Fairway Drive. At approximately 7:50 p.m., the vehicle went out of Marquez’s control for reasons that are not known.

In an area close to Deseo Drive, the truck went off the roadway, and rolled onto a slope near a golf course. Responders pronounced Marquez deceased at the accident site.

Investigators are working to understand why each crash occurred.
