Head-on Collision on Refugio Road Near Santa Ynez Injures Two People

SANTA YNEZ, CA (July 2, 2019) – On Monday night, two vehicles collided head on near Santa Ynez, seriously injuring two people. The July 1 incident occurred on N. Refugio Road in the 2100 block.

The time was roughly 6:54 p.m., according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

Reports say two vehicles collided head on, with one of the vehicles erupting in flames. Neither vehicle has been described.

Responders arrived and worked to free one of the drivers who was trapped inside a wrecked vehicle. It is not known which vehicle burned, and which vehicle trapped a driver, and if it was the same vehicle for both circumstances.

Neither of the drivers has been identified, including names, ages, gender, and cities of residence. Responders transported one victim by airlift to Cottage Hospital, Santa Barbara County Fire said. That person suffered injuries which were described as major. The types of injuries and the victim’s current condition have not been reported.

Responders transported the other victim to a hospital. That victim suffered injuries that were described as minor. The types of injuries and the current condition of the other victim have also not been reported.

Investigators are exploring the details, information, and evidence to find out why the accident happened. No details have yet been reported on circumstances that led to the collision.
