Wrong-way Collision on I-5 in Santa Ana Injures 5 People
SANTA ANA, CA (June 10, 2019) – A collision early in the morning on Saturday on I-5 in Santa Ana involving a wrong-way driver suspected of DUI injured five people. The June 8 incident occurred in the freeway’s northbound lanes, near State Route 55 and to the north of it, according to Hope Maxson. Maxson is a sergeant with the California Highway Patrol.
The time was roughly a little after 1:30 a.m.
Reports say that a vehicle had traveled in the wrong direction on the freeway, and smashed another vehicle head on which had been traveling in the HOV lane. According to Maxson, five people suffered injuries which were described as major, including the four people who had been traveling in the vehicle struck by the wrong-way driver.
Respondents arrived and transported all victims to a hospital. The person who had been driving the wrong way was later discovered to have been under the influence.
The identities of the people involved in the incident have not been reported, including their names, ages, gender, and cities of residence. The types of injuries the people suffered, and their current condition, is not known from reports.
Investigators will continue their work to understand the circumstances of the crash.
