Crash in Shadow Hills Neighborhood of Los Angeles Seriously Injures Pedestrian
LOS ANGELES, CA (May 10, 2019) – A crash Thursday night in Los Angeles involving a driver who is suspected to have been DUI seriously injured a pedestrian. The May 9 incident occurred in the Shadow Hills neighborhood, on Sunland Boulevard close to where Stonehurst Avenue intersects.
The time was roughly 10:55 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Reports say a vehicle, described as a Honda Accord, had been heading west on Sunland at a fast speed. The Honda, according to police, struck an Infiniti SUV that was traveling in the same direction.
The force of the collision caused the person driving the Infiniti to lose control of the vehicle. The Infiniti hit a curb, rolled over, and hit a person who had been walking with a dog.
The pedestrian suffered injuries that were described as severe. Respondents transported him to a hospital in the area. According to Detective Fuentes, the victim’s condition is grave. The man was identified only as between 50 and 55 years of age. His name and city of residence have not been reported.
It is not known from reports if the dog was hurt in the incident. According to Detective Fuentes, animal control came to take the dog.
Fuentes said the person who had been driving the Honda tried to leave the site, but officers found him not far from his vehicle. The driver was identified later as Grigoryan Aznaur, a resident of Tujunga. Authorities arrested him on suspicion of DUI.
The occupants of the SUV, identified only as a driver and passenger, stayed at the accident site and cooperated with investigators. Reports say the two people were not hurt in the incident. The identities of the two people have not been reported.
