Driver Flees Scene of Three-vehicle, Injury Crash in Riverside
RIVERSIDE, CA (March 7, 2019) – A three-vehicle crash, that police say was due to a driver speeding through a red light, caused injuries in Riverside on Tuesday morning. The March 5 accident occurred where Van Buren Boulevard and Jurupa Avenue intersect.
The time was roughly 6:00 a.m., according to the Riverside Police Department.
Erich Feimer, who is a sergeant with Riverside Police, said a driver had been traveling westbound on Jurupa, in a vehicle described as a GMC Yukon. The Yukon’s driver continued through the red light.
According to Feimer, a semi truck, that had been heading south on Van Buren, hit the Yukon. The impact caused the Yukon’s driver to lose control. The Yukon then collided with another vehicle, described as a Volkswagen Passat. The Passat, which had been headed east on Jurupa, had been stopped at the light that was red.
Reports say the Yukon had major damage, and that the person who had been driving it fled the scene on foot. Feimer said the driver abandoned her passenger, who had been seated in the front. The passenger suffered the majority of the impact from the semi truck.
Respondents took the victim to Riverside Community Hospital. Reports say the victim suffered injuries that were life threatening. The victim’s identity—including the person’s name, age, gender, and city of residence—have not been reported. The victim was said to be in critical condition.
The person who had been driving the Passat suffered injuries that were described as minor. The identity of the Passat driver has not been reported.
According to Feimer, that person who had been driving the truck was not hurt. The truck driver’s identity has not been reported.
The woman who had been driving the Yukon has not been identified in reports. Police ask that if anyone has information about her, or about the accident, to call the traffic bureau of the police department. The number is 951-826-8723.
