Michael David Tomlinson Killed in Hit-and-run Crash in Aliso Viejo While Riding His Bike

ALISO VIEJO, CA (January 31, 2019) – Michael David Tomlinson was killed while riding his bike early in the morning on Wednesday in Aliso Viejo by a hit-and-run driver. The January 30 accident occurred close to Westridge Drive and Wood Canyon Drive.

The time was roughly 6:40 a.m.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department said that Tomlinson’s wife found him as she drove up to the scene. Reports say that Tomlinson—who was identified as 51 years old—had been on his morning ride on his bike when the hit-and-run driver struck him. Responders arrived on scene and transported Tomlinson to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

Carrie Braun, who is a spokesperson with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, said the suspect driver and the vehicle that is believed to have hit Tomlinson were located near the accident scene, and less than a mile from it. Authorities found the driver—identified as Rogelio Martinez Cuin, a 38-year-old Lake Forest resident—on a trail close by.

Cuin was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter. According to reports, authorities do not believe alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident.
