Deodula Omandum Dies in Tustin Collision
TUSTIN, CA (November 27, 2018) – A two-vehicle collision in the evening on Friday in Tustin caused one of the vehicles to erupt in flames, and killed Deodula Omandum. The November 23 accident occurred at Dyer Road and Red Hill Avenue.
The time was roughly 9:40 p.m., according to Santa Ana Police.
According to reports, a pickup truck had been traveling southbound on Red Hill. It struck the rear of a Chevrolet Cruz sedan that had been stopped at a red light. The impact from the collision sent the sedan across the intersection before it stopped and erupted in flames.
An officer from Irvine police was in the location of the collision, and attended to the people involved in the crash. With the help of witnesses who were nearby, the officer took four of the people who had been traveling in one of the vehicles from it before it erupted in flames.
One victim—identified as Deodula Omandum, a 75-year-old resident of Visalia—was trapped in the wreck. She was killed in the fire. Orange County Firefighters put the fire out. Omandum was pronounced deceased at the accident scene.
Respondents took the four people who had been rescued from the vehicle before it caught fire, and the person who had been driving the other vehicle—identified as a man 26 years old and a resident of San Jose—to hospitals. The injuries suffered by the victims was described as major.
