Rollover Crash in Bakersfield on I-5 Kills Penitito Lemana and Two-year-old Emmanitta Torres
BAKERSFIELD, CA (November 19, 2018) – A crash early in the morning on Friday on I-5 killed a man and a little girl. The November 16 accident occurred a bit north of Bear Mountain Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The time was roughly 2:00 a.m.
Reports say that a vehicle—described as a 2000 Ford Expedition—had been traveling south, and going about 80 miles per hour. The SUV drifted off the road, and the impact threw multiple occupants from the vehicle.
The California Highway Patrol says that seat belts were not worn, and a a proper restraint had not been used for the child. Of the six people who had been traveling in the SUV, four were ejected when the crash occurred.
Penitito Lemana, a 41 year old, and Emmanitta Torres, a 2 year old, were killed in the crash, according to the coroner’s office.
Also traveling in the SUV were a woman, 21 years old; a girl, 14 years old; a girl, 2 years old; and a boy, 1 year old. Their names have not yet been reported. All of the travelers are residents of South San Francisco.
Officers do not think that drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. Investigators are looking into the details to determine what caused the accident.
