Collision Involving Multiple Vehicles Kills Driver Near Kerman
KERMAN, CA (September 20, 2018) – A collision involving multiple vehicles killed a man Tuesday night near Kerman. The accident happened on Highway 180, a bit west of Napa Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The time was roughly 9:50 p.m.
According to reports, the victim—identified as a 23-year-old resident of Kerman—had been driving a 1997 Honda. The Honda drifted off the highway and swerved back onto it in the westbound lane. The Honda and another vehicle—described as a 2006 Toyota—collided. The driver of the Toyota was identified as Rodolfo Avila Mojarro, a 45-year-old resident of Mendota.
A 2003 GMC that had been traveling westbound then collided with the Honda. The impact pushed the Honda into the lane that travels eastbound. The driver of the GMC was identified as Jose Garcilazo-Campos, a 64-year-old resident of Mendota.
A truck, described as a 2016 Peterbilt that was pulling two trailers loaded with grapes and heading eastbound, then struck the Honda a few minutes later. The driver—identified as Joel Villalobos-Lemus, a 41-year-old resident of Planada—could not see the wrecked Honda, reports say, because the Honda’s lights were not on.
The driver of the Honda died at the accident scene.
A passenger who had been traveling in the Toyota—identified as Katia Mojarro, 20 years old—suffered injuries that were described as major. Responders took her to Community Regional Medical Center.
No other details were yet reported about the crash.
