Los Angeles, CA Street Race Kills One Man, Injures Woman On South Central Avenue

LOS ANGELES, CA (July 25, 2018) – A vehicle that was racing illegally on a city street in Los Angeles killed a man and injured a woman early Sunday morning.
The accident occurred on South Central Avenue in the 5000 block, close to East 50th Street.
The time was roughly 1:30 a.m. when the accident occurred on July 22.
A report from the Los Angeles Police Department says the person who died was driving out of a driveway on South Central Avenue when his vehicle, described as an SUV, was hit by one of the vehicles that was racing illegally. The vehicle that hit the victim’s SUV was described as a 2009 BMW. The BMW, and a white sedan, had been racing each other.
The identity of the victim was not released.
According to police, the BMW that was racing was not able to stop, and hit the side of the SUV where the driver sat. The BMW crashed into an additional two vehicles before it stopped.
The man inside the SUV that was hit suffered head and body injuries. He died after the accident.
The woman who had been in the SUV suffered head and body injuries. Her condition was reported as critical.
Responders also took the BMW’s driver to the hospital. The condition of the BMW’s driver was described as stable.
