2 Boys Killed in Crash Involving Sheriff’s Dept. SUV in Boyle Heights

Details About the Fatal Boyle Heights Crash

Boyle Heights Crash2 boys are dead and their mother who is hospitalized in critical condition when 5 pedestrians were struck by an on-duty Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department SUV that was racing to an emergency call of shots fired and 2 civilian vehicles collided, sending 1 of the vehicles into the group of pedestrians in Boyle Heights Thursday evening, Nov. 16th. The 3-vehicle collision occurred around 7:25 p.m. in the 800 block of South Indiana Street and Whittier Boulevard on the border of East L.A. and Boyle Heights. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department SUV was rushing to the scene of a gunshot victim with lights and sirens when their cruiser collided into 2 other vehicles at the intersection. The impact of the crash sent 1 of the vehicles careening into a group of pedestrians who were walking near a Wells Fargo branch. The 2nd vehicle struck a 3rd vehicle, causing injury to 2 additional adult pedestrians in the crosswalk.

2 Young Boys Dead, Mother Critically Injured

Boyle Heights Deadly CrashAdditional LAPD officers and first responders arrived on scene to find 1 boy, aged 7-years old, dead at the scene. The other boy, aged 9-years old, was rushed by ambulance to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead a short time later. The mother of the 2 boys was also rushed to a nearby hospital where she has been listed in critical condition with unknown injuries. The 2 officers involved in the crash were transported by ambulance to a local hospital and listed in stable condition. The final 2 other pedestrians that were struck were also transported to a local hospital in unknown condition.

The drivers of the 2 vehicles involved in the fatal collision remained on scene and cooperated with authorities. None were injuries.

The collisions comes less than a week after an 11-year old girl was killed about a mile away from the Boyle Heights crash when she was struck by a car while standing by a taco truck. 3 others were struck and injured that night, but were expected to survive. The driver in that incident, Jose Louis Perez, was booked on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, while a juvenile in the car with him was arrested on suspicion of possessing nitrous oxide, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
